My Top 5 Favorite Uses for Essential Oils (and the recipes)

I love essential oils! I started using things like herbs and oils because I didn’t want to live in fear that one of my babies would get hold of something that could badly harm or even kill them. Over the last couple of years I have worked to turn our medicine cabinets into cabinets filled with tinctures made from herbs and oils instead of what I consider poisons. I have discovered some tried-and-true concoctions and have decided to share a few. Click on the underlined name to go straight to the recipe.

[Just to let you know, I have only recently been using Young Living (read about my unboxing here) so I am by no means a brand snob. This is not a post to PR Young Living. Though I recommend the quality of YL, you do your research and buy oils you feel comfortable using on your family.]bleach21

1. Homemade bleach alternative: This is one that gets used frequently in our house. We wash a lot of whites between the 5 of us! The oil used here is Lemon so it makes it smell very nice and does a great job of brightening the whites without the harmful effects bleach can have!

2. DIY bug bite salve: Between the Purification that cleanses bites and keeps them from itching and the Lavender that helps bring the swelling down this one has been my favorite so far! Bugs also hate the smell so it can even be used as a repellent. A friend of mine used this on some tick bites on his ankle and claimed that it did way more for him than the medicine he had been using for almost a month!

3. Headache remedy: There is no link to this, because it is simple enough to just say. My husband uses this every night when he gets a migraine and swears by it. Just mix a couple drops of peppermint with about a tablespoon of oil (we use coconut or a V6 blend sold by Young Living) and rub it on the temples, forehead, and back of neck.

4. Oil pulling with a twist: You know I can’t discuss health without bring up my love for oil pulling. See my most recent update here. There are several oils you can add to bring a different detox to the table. My personal favorite is Thieves.

5. Deodorant for sensitive skin: I choose to omit shea butter and it works great. My oil of choice for this recipe is Lavender.

Essential Oils in the Eyes!

We had an interesting encounter the other day. My 3 year old LOVES our essential oils. Anytime he is sick or gets hurt he asks for “Mamma’s oil medicine”. He loves them so much that I have to keep them hidden from him.

Sadly, his love for my oils exceeded my craftiness with hiding places last week and he got into my peppermint eo. He opened up the bottle, got a drop on his hands, and went straight for the eyes. If you’ve ever had peppermint even kind of close to your eyes, you know it can burn like crazy!

As you learned in elementary school, water and oil do not mix. This is the same with essential oil. You need to dilute it first. I panicked. I scoured the net trying to find something safe to put in his eyes. I had no luck. It is (not) surprisingly hard to get a 3 year old to let you put a Q tip on his eyeball!

Then, as if God dropped the URL in my lap, I found this blog! The answer was milk!

If you have an eo emergency in the eyes, run to the fridge! Quickly flush the eyes out with milk. It will almost immediately stop the burning. Then you will be able to wash the eyes with water the get the milk out.

I didn’t know this information immediately when the crisis came up at my house. Don’t be like me!! Accidents happen! Be prepared!

Review of My First Week with Oils

As most of you already know, I recently became a wholesale member with Young Living Essential Oils. I have had my oils for a week now and my family has really been enjoying them.

My husband was much more excited about the oils than I expected him to be. I thought I’d get teased about them. Well, if he was a skeptic, he isn’t now! We had a perfect opportunity this past week to really put them to the test when he caught a cold and needed some support. The oils came out!

EVERYDAY OILS USED THIS WEEK
We diffused a mixture of peppermint, lavender, and lemon oil every day for antiviral, antibacterial, and an immunity boost. I also rubbed peppermint on his temples and the back of his neck to help with inflammation to prevent sinus headaches.

I put Thieves in a spray bottle with water and sprayed it on counter tops and his pillow case while he was at work to cut down on spreading germs.

We diffused Peace & Calming at night to help him sleep through the night!

I also recommend making these cough drops.

These oils REALLY came in handy this last week!

There are a ridiculous amount of other uses for the oils. I especially like this regimen from dolfcheng.com, though I will have to temporarily discontinue use of the Peppermint once my milk comes in. (Peppermint is known to decrease milk supply in nursing mothers)

Note to the cynics: You CAN be a Christian and enjoy the relaxing benefits of morning
and evening yoga without Middle Eastern religion. I recommend it!

FREE CARRYING POUCH
I want to celebrate my love for these oils with a free gift! It’s nothing huge. Just a little thank you for sharing my excitement!

If you sign up to become a wholesale member and choose the Premium starter kit using the number 1742798 in the place for enroller and sponsor id between now and May 4, you will receive a free carrying pouch in either pink or the pretty aqua color pictured below.

It’s just the right size to fit all 10 of your everyday oils plus a few extra of your favorites. It looks prettier sitting beside your bed than the box that they come in and it keeps the oils from getting lost in your purse when you’re travelling with them.

Here is the link to my previous post again in case you need step by step help to get signed up.

I don’t have many left so don’t wait to join me!!

Opening My Young Living Premium Kit

Well I finally gave in and jumped on the Young Living band wagon thanks to my sweet new friend Dawn. I am now a wholesale member and I’m so excited about it!

I received my kit today and I wanted to share my excitement with everyone! I was going to do a video blog for this, but then I remembered that I hate videoing myself so that idea was immediately squashed. I’m currently diffusing Joy so forgive me if I use too many exclamation points 😀
What’s in the Premium Kit?
The first thing you come across when you open your box is the welcome pack. It has samples of everyday oils, 2 yummy packs of Ningxia (an antioxidant drink), a metal roller ball, and your first essential oil, Stress Away.

Only 1 Ningxia is pictured. My husband and I sampled the other 🙂

It immediately tells you to attach the roller ball to the Stress Away and apply it either to the wrists or the back of the neck so you can read through the literature stress free! It also smells awesome so that’s a plus!!

There is a product guide book and an introduction booklet.

Next you’ll find your 10 Everyday Oils. These are oils that you’ll use- you guessed it- in your everyday life. From stress, to cleaning, to cuts and scrapes- these are your basics. The introduction booklet will tell you what each oil does and how to effectively use it.

Finally, the big daddy. The first reason I got excited about becoming a wholesale member- THE DIFFUSER! I love that with just a small amount of water and a few drops of eo’s, my whole house can be filled with whatever oil I choose. I can disinfect the air without Lysol. I have my Frankincense and Thieves!

I’m a Terrible Salesperson
You don’t have to sell the oils to be a wholesale member with Young Living. There is no selling requirement or monthly commitment minimum. You have the option to share the discount with your friends and family, or make money selling oils. It’s your choice. I’m a terrible sales person. I strictly signed up for my wholesale benefit.
How Do I Enroll?
You start by purchasing a starter kit. I recommend the premium kit because it is the best value. The diffuser ALONE is worth almost $100 retail and though the premium kit would retail over $300, it is priced for 50% off!!

Signing Up is Easy
1. Go to the sign up page and choose to sign up as a wholesale member.
2. In “Enroller ID” and “Sponsor ID” type in 1742798. This is my ID number.
3. Fill out all your personal information.
4. Create a username and password. You’ll use this to log in to order your oils.
5. Specify which starter kit you would like to enroll with.
6. Specify a rewards kit if you would like. THIS IS NOT A REQUIREMENT. You do not have to be apart of the rewards program to be a member. This is just an extra bonus that can help you earn more money toward free oils. You can always decide later if you are not sure now about choosing this.
7. Agree to the terms and conditions and confirm your order!

That’s it!! You’re a wholesale member and can now enjoy your oils at 24% off!! I hope you at least explore this for yourself! I have really enjoyed the benefits of using essential oils so far!!
