I’m so Thankful

I’ve recently become not a huge fan of Christmas time, but Thanksgiving really gets me in great spirits! I love Thanksgiving. It’s a great time to reflect on all the things God has blessed me with. So many that I could never fit it into a list…

But I Gave it a Shot Anyway!!

10 Things I am Thankful for This ThanksgivingWP_20130405_026

1. My wonderful husband: He is such a blessing to me and my children! I do not know what I would do without my best friend and the love of my life!

10505380_10203632316202185_380169784626316716_n2) 3 beautiful children: They never let me get bored! I love who they are and can not wait to see who they become!

3) Health: I have been blessed to live in a country that currently gives me the freedom to make my own health choices. I can have my babies at home. I am able to provide my children with nourishing foods. I am able to deny shots that I deem unnecessary for my family. That’s a great thing! If you’re interested in the book that started my whole health journey, buy this book (http://amzn.to/1r5JrDV) It is a great resource!!

4) Godly parents: I had a mom and dad that loved each other and loved Jesus. They were a great example of a marriage that wasn’t 7f592-397338_10151195190908890_1195012329_nperfect but trusted in Jesus in everything! December 21st will be one year since I lost my dad, and I still have not forgotten his example of love!

5) My si21973_1269770757766_7437428_nblings1661263_10201610490773538_1612295373_n: We are a rag-tag group, but we are full of love for each other! I’ve never come in contact with a family that is close as mine. We have times where we want to kill each other, but we ALWAYS love and stand by each other! Losing my brother last December left a big hole, but it was quickly mended by the 3 of us girls coming together and keeping our memories of him alive!

6) My oils: Yes. I said it. Did you think I wouldn’t? I am so thankful for essential oils!! They have been so great for my family. I use them for sickness, recipes, and so much more!

7) Good friends: I have a great group of very diverse friends. They keep me sane and laughing. They love my family and take care of us if we ever need it. God knew what he was doing when He gave me my wonderful friends!

8) Good television: I am thankful to be able to enjoy watching TV with my husband. God delights when we find joy in little things and I thank Him for great television like Lost, The Office, Parks and Recreation, The Walking Dead, and many more shows!

9) Online shopping: More specifically, Amazon and Vitacost. A lot of my shopping is done right in front of my computer and I am so grateful to have that access. It’s such a first world problem that I get frustrated when I am $3 short of getting free shipping! What a problem to have!! 10) Jesus: I cannot say enough about Jesus! He saved me when I didn’t have any desire for a savior! He loves and accepts me just as I am.

[1] And you were dead in the trespasses and sins [2] in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—[3] among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. [4] But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, [5] even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—[6] and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, [7] so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. [8] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:1-10 ESV)

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? I would love to hear in the comments!

I’m Not a Proverbs 31 Woman

If you attend a church in America, the chances are very strong that every Mother’s Day you have endured a sermon telling you the lie that you need to do better at being more like a Proverbs 31 woman. Be kinder. Be Stronger. Be wiser. Do better. Try harder. You find yourself leaving church exhausted on the one Sunday of the year you expect to find rest, which is what you should be finding every Sunday of the year to begin with!

The problem with Proverbs 31:10-31, is that it is misused. Using the bible to abuse Christians does not coincide with the message of Jesus Christ.

The Proverbs 31 woman is a mere model of what the perfect wife and mother should be. PERFECT. “You therefore must be perfect, as your Father in Heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:48

PERFECT

Perfect Faith (31:26): There are many days that I don’t have perfect faith- correction- EVERY DAY. That I don’t speak with confidence in God. That I don’t trust Him wholly and give others good advice in perfect faith.

Perfect Marriage (31:11-12): I come up short in this department way too often. And I don’t think I’m alone.

Perfect Mother (31:28): I fail my children daily. I don’t play with them enough. I don’t always use kind words. I yell a lot.

Perfect Homemaker (31:27): I’m a terrible housekeeper. Don’t catch me off guard if you want to see vacuumed floors. I don’t always have hot meals on the table. Sometimes I get overwhelmed and we get take out! Even when I do clean house and cook awesome food, it isn’t always with a happy heart.

Perfect Service (31:20): Speaking of happy heart, I don’t always enjoy helping others. And even when I do help others, I’m not excited about it. That’s not exactly “pleasing to the Lord” (I’ll save that lovely exhausting phrase for another day).

God didn’t demand that we do our best. He demanded perfection.

HOW ARE YOU DOING WITH THAT?

As you can see, I’m not doing so hot! The beautiful news that set me free from the performance-based mindset is that I don’t have to be perfect! Jesus died in place of my lack of perfection. Not my righteousness, but His righteousness. He was my perfect marriage, perfect mother, perfect homemaker, perfect service, my perfect Christian. “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. Romans 5:1.

Mothers, please don’t fall into the trap that your identity is found in how well you can handle your life and family. Stop worrying that you must now perform for God since He so graciously saved you. It was gracious. Not a loan that you need to pay back.  There is nothing wrong with wanting to strive to be this wife and mother. The problem is making this the standard. Jesus is the standard. The Proverbs 31 woman isn’t perfect. Only one was perfect. She is an imperfect woman that loves her family and is ready and willing to find perfection in Jesus.

Welcome June Marie!

Baby amnesia. It’s a wonderful thing. One minute I’m in my bedroom hunched over my bed and mocc05c7a6ab5897afoing like a miserable cow (sorry neighbors), the next I’m talking to my husband about what our next baby’s name should be.

With that being said, say hello to the best part of having a baby-the baby!

Ms. June Marie Donald

A Great Day for Throwing Eggs/ No Poo Update

Yesterday was such an awesome day that we decided to go outside and get messy. I found a fun idea on Pinterest (surprise) for painting that I thought the boys would really enjoy. For the past few days I have been very carefully cracking our eggs so that only the tops would be open and rinsing them out to save. Yesterday I filled them up with tempera paints and we took them outside to chunk at canvas!

It was very messy! We got paint all over us, including our hair! It was definitely worth it though. They had a ton o’ fun!

Rinsing it off the side of the house wasn’t quite as fun as how it got there, but I think it was worth the trouble. AND we got a really pretty picture out of it to hang in the boys room!

The finished product!

1 Week No Poo
Monday was officially one week since I started my new hair washing routine found here! I am still very satisfied with the look AND feel of my hair! You know the way your hair feels right after you dye your hair and use that conditioner? So soft and light? I’ve had that feeling for a week now and I love it!! The picture below isn’t the best representation of my hair due to the fact that my phone is archaic, but I have gotten several compliments from people interested in why my hair looks so shiny and healthy!

I have a small amount of stringiness to the ends of my hair this morning after my wash last night but I’m thinking it could have something to do with me going to sleep with it still wet. Other than that, I haven’t had any issues like the transitioning I was warned about. Maybe I’ll dodge that bullet! If you’re still curious I say you should do your own research and AT LEAST give it a try!

You Might be Pregnant

So I’m working on my third pregnancy in 3 years and I’m starting to catch on to things that are inevitable in every pregnancy. I decided to make a list of my most common crazy pregnant moments that I’m sure almost every past or present pregnant woman can relate to.

So here it is…

If the thought of eating makes you sick, while you shovel food into your mouth…you might be pregnant.

If you get out of breath watching SOMEONE ELSE go upstairs to do something for you…you might be pregnant.

If you are ready to take a nap as you’re waking up from your last nap…you might be pregnant.

If every movie or TV show you watch makes you think of a food you would like to eat right now…you might be pregnant.

If you can smell what the neighbors 3 houses away are microwaving…you might be pregnant.

If every Saturday morning, at exactly 9:49, Dragon Ball Z makes you cry for Piccolo reasons…you might be pregnant…or a geek. We share a lot of the same great qualities.

Comment below if you can think of any to add!

Our Advent Calendar (updated with picture)

Even though it’s still Fall, we retired our checklist so that we could get our Advent calendar up. We did all but 8 this year. Much better than our doing 7 last year!

This year’s Advent calendar is completely scrap diy. It’s made from toilet paper rolls, a diaper box, and a paper bag. It might look a little jank but it serves its purpose!

Each little circle that the boys get to excitedly punch through every night has 2 slips of paper in it. One green slip with a story from The Jesus Storybook Bible with help from Home With the Boys, and one red strip with a fun activity for all of us to do together.

It begins with our first night of reading about creation and putting up the Christmas tree!

Any other diy calendars out there you’d like to share?
